Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Adult Muay Thai

Do I need experience to start?
No. Most students start with no prior striking background. Classes are structured to introduce fundamentals at a manageable pace.
Is this like cardio kickboxing?
No. Muay Thai at Miller is taught as a martial art — with emphasis on proper mechanics, timing, and technique. Conditioning is built through training, but it’s not the goal of the class.
Will I have to spar on my first day?
No. Pad work and controlled drilling are the foundation. Sparring is introduced once students have built the technique and control to do it safely.
Do I need my own equipment to start?
Not for your first class. Comfortable athletic clothing is fine. If you continue training, your coach will guide you on what to invest in (gloves, shin guards, mouthguard, etc.).
Can I train BJJ and Muay Thai together?
Yes, and many students do. The two arts complement each other well, and Miller’s schedule supports training both consistently.
